Andrew Mckim
Andrew McKim was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on July 6, 1970.He currently
resides in his newly adopted hometown, St. John’s, Newfoundland with his wife Leanne.
They have two children Emily 12, and Matthew 10.
Andrew began his career with the QMJHL where he played from 1986 – 1990. He was
the league MVP in 1990.Andrew began his 11year professional career in the Calgary
Flames Organization. The next year he was the MVP and leading scorer for the St.John’s
Maple Leafs. He then signed with Boston Bruins where he made his NHL debut and played
in Beantown for two years. After Boston, Andrew went on to play Detroit Red Wings
before taking his talents overseas. He went on to play three years in the German
Elite League and then onto the Swiss Elite League for another three. Unfortunately,
he was injured in October 2000 with a career ending concussion.
Andrew also played for Team Canada in 1985,1986,1987, 1995, 1996,1998 and 1999.
Andrew played for Team Canada at the 1995 World Championships in Sweden where they
won the Bronze Medal and he was the tournament’s leading scorer.
Andrew currently owns Capital Hyundai Arena in downtown St. John’s where he runs
Xtreme Hockey program. Andrew is now coaching Mt.Pearl Sr. Blades and St. John’s
Major Atom A team.
Randy Pearcey
Randy Pearcey was born in St. John’s on July 27, 1952. He was educated in his hometown
and in 1975 he graduated from Memorial University with a degree in Physical Education
and Education. Since graduation he has taught school in St. John’s as well as been
a part a time instructor at Memorial University School of Physical Education. In
June 2004, he retired from teaching. Since retiring, Randy has spent the majority
of his time and energy pursuing his real passion “HOCKEY”. Hockey and Randy have
always seemed to go together. He started playing at the age of six and hasn’t stopped
since. A winner of numerous personal awards (Scoring Titles, MVP’s) and five Provincial
Senior Hockey Championships. In 2003 he was inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador
Hockey Hall of Fame. His love for playing however, takes a back seat to his passion
for teaching the game to children. For over thirty years he has owned and operated
the largest hockey school in Newfoundland and Labrador. A large number of his former
students have gone on to play professionally. Today he resides in St. John’s with
his wife of thirty years and two sons.
Coaching Staff
Adam Pearcey
After 2 years of helping out as a timekeeper, the youngest Pearcey was added to
the fold of school instructors this summer. Adam is enrolled as a Grade 11 student
at Gonzaga High School in St. John's and currently plays in the Avalon Celtics Minor
Hockey Association. The 16 year old is a strong asset to the business, as he likes
to work in the trenches with the youngest kids in the program. Count on seeing Adam's
face around the rink for years to come.
Andrew Pearcey
Andrew has been working at Xtreme Hockey for 6 years as an instructor. Andrew attended
hockey school from the age of 5 until the age of 13, and has just concluded his
4 year Junior A career this past April. Andrew played 4 years of junior with 3 teams;
the Pembroke Lumber Kings of the Central Junior Hockey League, the Charlottetown
Abbies of the Maritime Junior Hockey League, and the Amherst Ramblers, also of the
Maritime League. Andrew loves teaching the game to younger children and brings a
youthful presence to the X team. He currently resides in St. John's and is currently
in year two of his Memorial University education.
Chris Lake
Chris has a tremendous passion for the game and has been playing or coaching for
over 30 years. Chris is an NCCP certified coach and has coached teams at all levels,
including Elite teams, Regional teams, and Provincial teams. Today he enjoys spending
his time teaching young players at all levels, the skills they need to achieve their
hockey and life goals. At Xtreme Hockey, Chris is involved with teaching Power Skating,
Shooter Camps, and also is an instructor at the Summer Hockey Schools.
Maria Powell
After many years of attending Xtreme Hockey as a student, Maria is now a member
of the X team. Maria is a high school student who attends Holy Heart of Mary High
School in St. John's, and helps out with the fall and winter programs. Maria plays
female high school hockey with the Holy Heart Highlanders and is one of the stronger
players in the league. Keep your eyes peeled for Maria at the higher levels of womens
hockey in the near future.
Shawn Newhook
Shawn has been working with Xtreme Hockey for the past two years. A former local
junior and senior hockey standout, Shawn has been a welcome addition to the Xtreme
coaching team. After completing his B.P.Ed. and B.Ed. (Sec.), Shawn is currently
employed at Booth Memorial High School in St.John’s as the school’s Physical Education
Teacher and Athletic Director.
